These residents in East London could potentially face a £150,000 bill each to replace their cladding amongst other fire safety defects found in their building.
Lots of stress and worry for the residents who already have the concern of living in a potentially dangerous building.
I'm seriously starting to wonder whether there are other options available here rather than the current situation.
As in so many similar cases around the UK this seems to be:
1. Scare the living daylights out of all of the residents which can effect their wellbeing and mental health
2. Put in the most expensive temporary fire safety systems which are often required for much longer than originally intended
3. Pass the buck on to the next person/company rather than making a decision and;
4. Avoiding looking at modern, safer, more cost effective and resident friendly solutions.

I feel terribly sorry for these residents in high rise blocks of flats with cladding issues. They are saying it is ripping their lives apart. It is costing them a fortune and driving them to despair. They feel let down by this Government and they don't know whether they are coming or going. Just to add insult to injury their insurance companies have quadrupled their prices just to kick the boot in a little harder.
Waking watch costs are crippling them when there are much more cost effective and less disruptive systems that could be considered.
Whether its a fire risk assessor, engineer or other professional covering their back and putting the fear of god into these residents they need to realise that by doing so they are financially and emotional crippling these residents.
We learnt so much from Grenfell which was tragic beyond words. But what I don't think is being considered and should be is that we now have this knowledge about cladding that we didn't have before. Firstly the evacuation procedure in these buildings has gone from Stay Put to Full Evacuation and secondly, in my opinion, there are so many more safer systems that can be put into place to speed up this evacuation without destroying the lives of the residents.

£12 million spent a month in London alone on waking watch services. I’m sure this is justified in some cases but that’s an incredible sum of money on something that once spent has nothing to show for it as supposed to systems that could have been installed and reused if they are ever removed.
I’m interested, does anyone know of cases where waking watches have been used to evacuate residents and what was the severity of the fire in those cases? There may be many so I would be interested in what has been the actual requirement of these services to date? I think it’s a perfectly reasonable question at £12 million a month.

Interesting article forbidding residents with dangerous cladding in their buildings to talk directly to the press.
They have to seek permission from the Government beforehand to be able to do so.
Interesting times at the moment with lots of censorship issues around the globe and yet another Government regulation removing a little more control from people who have a reason to speak out more than most.

If you are being asked for a EWS1 form by your mortgage lenders but you do not believe that your building requires a form, please get in touch with me for a fire risk assessment.
Our fire risk assessments look at all of the relevant factors and can provide you with a safe, effective and balanced report. Our assessments will review all of your existing fire safety control measures and look at a range of new and dynamic fire safety systems that can often be used to compensate for other shortcomings.

Another block of flats, this time in Huddersfield, is having to employ a waking watch to patrol the building day and night following failed external wall fire safety tests. The money will hopefully be available from the new Government Fund and won't fall to the residents who will already have enough concerns to deal with.
I hope in 2021 we can start to look at alternative options available to keep buildings safe utilising much more cost effective and friendly solutions for the residents rather than solely rely on the provision of a waking watch.

Difficult situation for these residents in Sheffield having to evacuate their flats due to failed fire safety tests.
The decision has been made to remove residents from the upper floors until such time as a fire alarm system is installed.
I hope this work can be completed quickly and the residents can go home as soon as possible.
