Fire crews were called to deal with this bin fire at a high rise block of flats in Margate which was started deliberately. Fortunately the buildings sprinkler system extinguished the fire and nobody was hurt.
Arson is a very serious crime and the potential for danger when starting a fire in a high rise block of flats is high, fortunately in this case the sprinklers and firefighting teams were able to limit the damage.
It is easy for Arson to be overlooked when carrying out a fire risk assessment because it often means looking at things that are not easily apparent and making recommendations that can appear to go above and beyond what is required. But measures such as CCTV, additional lighting, secured fencing and keeping the perimeter of a building clear can go a long way to avoid these instances happening or at least lessening their damage if they do.
